Should we accept funding for this project?
Should we accept funding at the start of the project? On one hand it would make things a lot easier, on the other it might make things too easy, if we did it by ourselves without any help it would give a greater sense of accomplishment and might be more inspiring to people, look they started it with a tiny budget no budget.

what about if we did the effort to get the funding to come in. like fund raisers where we provide perks for donation amounts, the way kickstarter and indiegogo works?
If we made the perks for the fundraiser then technically we would be generating the funds ourselves and might even have a solid base to start projects at the site to generate more money later if needed say for buying more land. funding other communities, stuff like that?

That's a good idea, the perks could be things like getting a free visit or staying a few nights at the community, so that it further promotes it.

well until we have the place that would be something we would have to hold off on, but continued funding could be arranged that way for sure.
for now I was thinking we need to build our skill sets and add anything we can to them, while doing this we could be making stuff to put into a pool of "perks" that can then be auctioned off, placed in a fundraiser like KS or Indiegogo, and given away for donation amounts. and know that we are working toward our goal :)

"Funding... it could only help, right?"-Blaine
The problem that I see is later on down the road, if we succeed wildly and create a better way for people to live together on a small scale, then make a documentary about it and a guide book, which could produce far more profit than funding, and seek funding later....but if we accept funding right from the start and keep taking donations, then what are we proving to others? How compelling is the documentary going to be if people are left wondering whether or not it really works better since they got all that money for free to build this or that?

I dont think we can really do much of anything without any funds. this is something a group of us have been working toward for the last 15 years, but funding has been a problem. I can see the well what will people think of us if we accept money argument. But if you focus so much on what people think... you'll fail. Besides actual land tho, there isnt a lot we would even need funding for. Im sure everyone has something to bring to the table.

Yes we should accept any funding possible at any time Closed Thu 5 Sep 2013 9:06AM
Voting yes for this means, it could be much easier to start and grow, but that it may be more difficult to prove later on that living in such a community has a greatly positive impact on people's lives, if they got a large amount of funding from other sources, and also this may be discouraging to others who want to start up a community like this but can't get funding.

I'm not sure. If do make a loan for at least the first part, we can pay it off quickly and then use that community as a base to build other one's making it easier for others to start, so they don't need a loan. But I think it could be done without.

I am in disagreement with loans, but should the group need that direction as a last resort.

I think this idea has promise but being a blueprint it still needs finer tuning to then see if it's a viable proposal

As long as the funding doesn't come with restrictions or ties to a company or government I see no reason why we couldn't try, it could only help, right?
