Not at all, its because their business model is no different to any other persons/business within nz and while they collate so much wealth and receive so much cash from "clients" or "customers" they could do their part in supporting local economy like everyone else; instead of accumulating so much wealth and withholding it. sharing it with those that actually need it would be beneficial for everyone. God would surely approve. unless someone has a good reason why they shouldn't ?!

instead of accumulating so much wealth and withholding it. sharing it with those that actually need it would be beneficial for everyone.

Which is actually why they're not taxed and they do perform many socially good functions. But, due to charity not being enough to support a society, government has taken over many of the functions that churches used to do and they're now supported by taxes.

That said, I wouldn't tax the churches per se, I'd tax their businesses that make a profit. Donations to churches have already been taxed after all.

I think you may be confusing church revenues with profits.

A church running a surplus would just employ more people or provide more services. It would never deliberately make a profit.

I am for taxing churches. I can see some problems with doing it though. For instance, why wouldn't they all become charities looking after the emotional well being of their flock.

um, if they took responsibility for all the actions of their flock, (their leaders) like a boss would if under their guidence... and when that flock commited crimes, they are held accountable sure. if they dont practice what they preach so to speak, great. but they dont, they just keep taking using their church as a .. you know what i mean. source of income which not all peoples get to share, unless continuing being apart of it... and um a charity would have to be re written so that the people taking advantage of that now would fit into the new beliefs of the majority. of (tax payers) people. sorry, my english is shit tonight. i dont want to be politically correct cause thats like an oxymoron to me haha. so excuse my choice of words, im finding it hard to explain my thoughts with big words.
