Can I start a new thread in a Loomio group by sending an email?

I've looked at the Starting Threads page in the Loomio user manual, but I can't see any instructions for starting threads by email.

No, you can't do that yet, but it's something we're going to bring out when we're there. Hopefully not more than 2 months away.
