Evening Festivities
Since this is an event that goes over 3 nights, how about a screening of Occupy Love on the first night?
Here's the full film
http://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/occupy_love_2013/
The process of having a free screening is all laid out on this site http://occupylove.org/screenings/host/
It's currently being shown around the world http://occupylove.org/screenings/

The films would be evening entertainment. How about a "Lawn Chair Drive In"? .. Where the films are projected on a wall at night in the open air for free. Good outreach to the. 99%

+1 movie night, and +1 light brigade. might be good to ask the local OLB chapters if they are available one of the nights for an action and then plan the movie night around that on a separate night. i'm in the OLB network and can pass on the msg

Sounds great! Maybe, if the gathering is large enough more than one stage could be utilized.

I like that the "day of" is up for debate.

Artful Activist San Diego has all equipment to show a projected movie
Jackie Tue 22 Apr 2014 3:34AM
Like and +1 and hot damn! Very helpful to know something is available. one less thing.
Tricia Tue 22 Apr 2014 12:51PM
Great news about the equipment, Chris.
There are so many good films made since 2011 - we could make it like an Occupy Film Festival.
Instead of "Bring Tents" we say "Bring Lawn Chairs"

+1 @kerri @bobby
Justin Thu 24 Apr 2014 5:34PM
sounding great! anyone who knows a film maker we should invite them to this discussion. bet they'll have some neat tricks & ideas to throw in even if they can come or donate a film.
Julia Clark Thu 24 Apr 2014 5:37PM
@justin2 I assign you to reach out to Michael Moore.. Impress him on why he should show up.
Julia Clark Thu 24 Apr 2014 5:40PM
Aww, I missed the chance to say, "Your mission is" Drats!
If you think you can do it. Do eet! pl0x . with rainbows on top! _^
Justin Thu 24 Apr 2014 5:46PM
Why would I do that he's not part of Occupy? If you feel it's important be the change, do it. I'm reaching out to folks on my own. You should do the same- but can we PLEASE NOT TROLL celebs on Twitter?
It's an outdated & desperate tactic. Most accounts have social media community managers behind them anyway. :)
I'd personally skip the film night if any professional film maker joined..
Julia Clark Thu 24 Apr 2014 11:06PM
Oh, sorry guy. I thought you were joking around when you said anyone know a film maker.
I knew you had people to reach out to. _^
Of course no one would want anyone with any kind of established career showing up for film night. That would just be shameful.
But if you were to reach out to a filmmaker of any sort, I would by pass twitter, any ole way. An up and coming are often more busy than the established farts.

We can let the films speak for themselves and just ding the biggest coolest wall in Sacramento to have the Lawn Chair Drive In - It 'll be fun for the media peeps to make posters...
Kerri Wed 30 Apr 2014 8:23PM
got initial positive response from Bay Area Light Brigade and OLB San Diego. no particular date yet. they are going to try to join call today
Les from Sacramento Mon 5 May 2014 10:06PM
Maybe we can arrange for a showing at the Crest Theater and get some publicity from it?
Tricia Mon 5 May 2014 11:50PM
Sally G Tue 6 May 2014 11:00AM
Is there someone in Occupy Sacramento who is willing to talk to management at the Crest?
NikiV Tue 6 May 2014 9:17PM
Oh, I'm planning on curating all kinds of ideas for evening festivities, some of them will probably include some "official" NatGat3 events on the schedule. I'm kinda going about curating schedules ala Winter Music Conference ... =)
NikiV Tue 6 May 2014 9:19PM
BTW, Occupy Venice Beach has been doing #Doccupy a film series now for about 3 years .... they are willing to come and bring their Doccupy to NatGat3 and coordinate an entire Film Festival if they can get some help with logistics locally up there in Occupy Sacramento.
NikiV Tue 6 May 2014 9:21PM
Let me edit that, they said they were willing to listen to a proposal (just to make it formal), if we can get a point person to help on location logistics with us. That's all they needed to bring in a film festival that would be oh so Occupy and of course I'll ask if they would be open to inclusion of any "Official NatGat14" Films/Documentaries/Speakers, etc. =)

Sally, Certainly a Sacramento person would inquire of the Crest Theatre. Yet there are more angles on various medias or venues for evening festivities. I think I've seen 3 or four discussions on Lumio relating to this. @Gandalf might be the one to gather this information. I'll mention it to him. However I think we should inquire comprehensively about all the medias and venues and not merely make a request to Crest, without also seeing how the other venues and medias might fit in.
On the other hand though, if a "professional" screening or film festival is in the works, then yes, with the details of those events in hand, arrange it.
I called the Crest and they said July 30,31, and Aug 3 are available. So the person doing it should go to crest.com and click the rental link for application and prices. Let's do it so that we avoid conflict, that a person wouldn't have to miss something because they chose something else. Crest Theatre, 916-442-5189

What the people who have time and interest can do is create a team and a proposal. Since they are already Occupy friendly and are available. Let's give them the information they they need for a 1 night film fest and see if they might wave the fees.

like the lawn chair drive-in :)
