The purpose of this thread (or Vital Conversation) is to lay basic foundations of broad agreement in regards to “the global sustainability crisis” – consolidating a mutually acceptable analysis and effective presentation of the sustainability issue’s 1) extreme urgency; 2) root cause, and 3) resolution.

As articulated by the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund [CELDF]: “We believe that to attain sustainability, a right to local self-government must be asserted that places decisions affecting communities in the hands of those closest to the impacts.”

The Earth Holocracy Proposal's 'Vital Conversation' associated with this thread (Achieving Sustainability in Time) provides an elaborated exposition of the aim of this thread - that being to confirm and strengthen the existence of broad consensus regarding:
the magnitude of the world environmental crisis and, as such, the great urgency for effectively meeting “the sustainability challenge”
the root cause of the sustainability crisis – and, indeed, all crises now confronting global humanity – social, financial, political, etc. – being the centralization of power and wealth
the solution to the mega-crises of our time – that is, the only realistic and viable way to ensure the immediate and long-term survival, and indeed, the flourishing, of global human civilization and the planetary biosphere – being decentralization, that is, political, economic and socio-cultural re-localization.
This proposal seeks to affirm consensus regarding the only solution to the 'Sustainability Challenge'.

It is a KEY tenet of the Earth Holocracy Proposal that the 'Sustainability Challenge' can ONLY be met by virtue of the self-empowerment, self-organization and collaborative endeavors of Local Communities everywhere - that is, by the membership of place-based communities assuming and effectively exercising collective responsibility for ensuring the long-term well-being of their Communities and the local natural environment upon which such depends.
