Proposed new dates
For the last couple of years, the dates for Nest have changed each time. There's a rumour going round that the dates for 2020 have been set: 25th - 31st May. This is something that has been pushed for a while by some members keen for Nest to coincide with school half term holidays. The idea is that these dates make Nest more accessible for families. There's also word that people want to push for these to dates to be set for all future Nests. While these dates are undeniably more inclusive for families, let's not book the 2021 dates until we have a good idea who they end up excluding.
Becaue of families taking holidays, travelling is a lot more expensive during half term and will impact Nestlings coming from afar. Because of parents taking time off work during half term, a lot of people aren't able to get time off from their jobs this week.
2019's dates were very popular. Having Nest the week before the May Bank holiday meant that people with full time jobs were able to stay the full weekend without using up too much holiday, as the bank holiday is a free day off work.
The new dates will inevitably have clashes with other events. Fire In The Mountain, a festival that a lot of burners are involved in, falls on the new weekend. About half of my camp's core crew are comitted to this festival and won't be able to make it to Nest.

Nest has normally been timed to end on the spring bank holiday weekend, however it changed dates in 2018 due to the location being booked for those dates already. If the dates have shifted again it's likely due to the location being unavailable on the normal dates. Though it would still be worthwhile for future reference to see whether one week is more popular with the community than the other. The old dates clash with Creme Brulee as well.

Maybe it would work to rotate around a few dates (within the range of a month or so), with the actual date relative to the bank holiday intentionally shifted (and, ideally, not overlapping : eg if it starts at the bank holiday one year then it would neither start nor end with it the next). Then it wouldn't consistently clash with other events. The bank holiday is obviously popular so has a lot more potential for clashing year after year with completely unrelated events.

I think Adrian's proposal is a nice one, if it works with the venue. I don't mind when Nest is, but I do like knowing far in advance. The earlier we can set a date, the better.

Greetings all from across the pond!
We Nesties from the Desanka clan are really looking forward to being there again this year, serving up omelettes in the morning during Nest, but also wishing to serve both in build and strike!
For us, we plan almost one year in advance and are currently planning on those dates for Nest. We are also considering a couple of other adventures in the UK around the same time to fill out about a month or a month and a half of serving at festivals and also maybe a little tourist thing (two of us need to personally make a deposit by the end of the year for a week-long Retreat in Ireland which ends two days before the scheduled build week).
The dates that are currently on the book are of course best for us, but if they do need to change a week forward or back, we just need to know. We also buy plane tickets in January!!
Of course, we are not asking the community to accommodate for the Yanks, but just to let you know that as overseas travelers, we have a lot to get ready a bit earlier in the game. We really need this decision as quickly as possible. Thanks, Loves :)
Papy out, for Desanka

If it were my decision we’d base the whole timing around the moment Desanka set up their kitchen to the moment it comes down 😊

While I understand the sentiment be behind the discussion, if it’s not already set, I really think this needs be set as soon as possible.
Like right now.
There are going to be winners and losers, pros and cons for any dates you choose. People will work around then or not.
please choose a date

Hello :)
I do believe the dates are set. A newsletter is currently being typed up, created and will be sent out, hopefully, in the next 24 hours.
This is obviously to ensure Desanka can book their flights in time and, to a lesser extent, let the community in the UK know when Nest is happening.

Wow ... I am a little bit overwhelmed by the show of support and love I just felt reading these posts ... maybe a wee bit of embarrassment for being so American and "out there" with my request and wants. Ultimately, I feel grateful to be included in this Nest community. I must say that there are many communities (similar to Burn culture) that wouldn't be so accepting of us Desanka-types, much less so accommodating. Thank you and know this, Nestlings ... you are also loved and cherished by all who have attended, but more amazingly, you (as a community) are loved and cherished by so many in Desanka who only DREAM of one day coming and being a part of Burning Nest. ❤️

It ain't a Nest without Desanka :)

For the last two years I've missed some events I really wanted to attend, because I also wanted to go to Nest. I'd be very happy if it moved dates (I hope the other events don't move too!).
