Beta testing the next version of Loomio
Hello Loomio Community!
We're looking for volunteers who are willing to try the next major release of Loomio and give us feedback.
What's in the next version?
There isn't much in the way of new functionality, although you will notice some visual improvements. The major change is an upgrade of the foundational libraries that Loomio uses within the browser. Specifically we're replacing Vue 2 + Vuetify 2 with their modern replacements: Vue 3 and Vuetify 3.
This upgrade is something we must do if we are to keep Loomio current with web technologies and make sure we can continue to improve Loomio.
How do I switch to the beta (and back again)?
It's low risk to try the beta. If something does not work, you can easily switch back to the current stable version of Loomio.
You can enable the beta version by clicking this link:
https://www.loomio.com/dashboard?beta=1
And disable the beta by clicking this link:
https://www.loomio.com/dashboard?beta=0
Please post your feedback in this thread and I'll keep you updated with progress.
How reliable is the beta today?
From internal testing, we think just about everything looks and works as it should. That's exactly why we need a wider audience with fresh eyes and a variety of different contexts to find the last of the problems.
Thanks for your time and your support
Robert

Just trying out the Beta version for the first time today, my initial impressions are:
I don't understand why it says I have 4 unread threads when I have none
I miss being able to switch to my Unread list with one click when I'm in a thread. The sidebar now shows me all the threads in my group (which is nice) but doesn't distinguish between the ones I've read and the ones I havent. To see my unread threads I need to go back to my dashboard. Not a major niggle, I'm sure I will get used to it.

@Robert Guthrie Sweetbix. Ping me when you've shipped the update that fixes the link issue, and I'll give it another spin.

@Danyl Strype thanks for giving it a spin! just fixed links an hour ago actually. I'll deploy an update soon - hunting down this reply bug Midi mentioned.

Kia ora @Robert Guthrie, I just gave the beta a spin. Adding a link didn't work for me. I selected the text I wanted to link and clicked the link button, but nothing happened.
I'm using LibreWolf 132.0-1, on Fedora 40 (Mate-Compix).

Yikes. Actually, I've encountered this too.Â
I've had 2 or 3 weeks of stuff come up and the beta has not progressed. I'm back on it next week. In the meantime please just use the stable version (link above)
Thanks so much for trying it and letting me know.

@Robert Guthrie Just a heads up Rob that I've disabled the beta version for now - several people in our group were having difficulty with the reply function sticking and this below is a typical example of the message received. If I log off and log back in I usually find that messages have actually published, but there are several who just give up in frustration and resort to email messages which fragments our communications!

I'm seeing the problem too! Will fix asap

@Midi Berry - thank you for reporting it. does it happen every time you reply, or just fairly often, or infrequently?

Hi @Robert Guthrie . Have been trialling beta Loomio for a week or more now and am finding a recurrent issue when replying to someone's message. When I click post comment the screen becomes unresponsive and i get a notice saying 'wait' Waiting doesn't result in the screen clearing so I have to log off and log in again, whereupon I find that my reply message has been saved and is now visible.

@Dani Ahrens 4 unread is actually a fake placeholder.. sorry! Real numbers coming soon.
Thanks for feedback about wanting to see unread - I'll address that soon too
