Beta testing the next version of Loomio

RG Robert Guthrie Public Seen by 351

Hello Loomio Community!

We're looking for volunteers who are willing to try the next major release of Loomio and give us feedback.

What's in the next version?

There isn't much in the way of new functionality, although you will notice some visual improvements. The major change is an upgrade of the foundational libraries that Loomio uses within the browser. Specifically we're replacing Vue 2 + Vuetify 2 with their modern replacements: Vue 3 and Vuetify 3.

This upgrade is something we must do if we are to keep Loomio current with web technologies and make sure we can continue to improve Loomio.

How do I switch to the beta (and back again)?

It's low risk to try the beta. If something does not work, you can easily switch back to the current stable version of Loomio.

You can enable the beta version by clicking this link:

https://www.loomio.com/dashboard?beta=1

And disable the beta by clicking this link:

https://www.loomio.com/dashboard?beta=0

Please post your feedback in this thread and I'll keep you updated with progress.

How reliable is the beta today?

From internal testing, we think just about everything looks and works as it should. That's exactly why we need a wider audience with fresh eyes and a variety of different contexts to find the last of the problems.

Thanks for your time and your support

Robert

We've just started a new poll in a group. Should we wait til this is complete before enabling the beta version?

@Midi Berry actually, it would be helpful if you used the new version for this. Let me know if anything is broken.

If you enable it, you can always change back easily, and it does not change the setting for any other users of your group.

@Robert Guthrie  Hmmm, I understand and would like to help, but this feels to be an important poll moment for this group and I prefer not to risk unnecessarily complicating it with anything broken. Happy to beta test when there is less 'hanging' on a particular poll participation, so it will be after Friday that we'll switch to beta testing.

@Midi Berry I totally understand - you're making the right call. Thanks for your support

the text is nice and crisp...and everything has a spacious feel.

but the 'seen by' and notification popups still only go away with a precise click on the x...

but that Is my pet bugbear...

@david rayner nice. ok next deploy will fix that. click anywhere outside the modal will close it.

The beta version sometimes does a ton of loading something that is not obvious (i have just watched it just filling up in task manager) and maxes out my RAM. (the browser says stop the page well before that.)

this has only recently started doing this.

(u are now in the company of farcebook which sometimes does the same thing (but no warning.) usually with moving image.)

it seems to be dependent upon if i am running more than one tab.

maybe with one or both having text writing in progress.

..i run recentish reinstalled 8.1 with FF 115.16.1esr.

not on a phone. 😯 which may be the problem? i mean the lack of a phone... 😐

ps

and the modal closers no longer work. (but the opaque grey wash underneath has stopped.)

@david rayner it sounds like you might be using the old Loomio version. Check that buttons are orange, not blue
