Call for nominations! Organizing Circle seeks new At Large Member
New At Large Member Needed for Social.Coop Organizing Circle!
Due to the withdrawal of one of the original members we have an opening for a new at large member.
The Organizing Circle coordinates among working groups and ops teams, providing a space for ongoing strategic conversation and coordination and facilitating greater member participation in both operations and governance. Three current OC members are representatives from the working groups: @Flancian (Tech), @Caitlin Waddick, Finance Working Group for Social.Coop and Organizing Circle, and @Matt Noyes (Community). In addition, there are three at large members: @Kathe TB, @MarieVC (social.coop/@MarieVC), and @Eduardo Mercovich.
The duties of an OC at large member are to participate in the bi-weekly meetings and perform any tasks the member agrees to take on. The term of service is two years. The OC uses a loose sociocracy approach. (https://www.sociocracyforall.org/) See the Organizing Circle recaps (https://www.loomio.com/d/QBtcgaOq/organizing-circle-recaps-2024-) for more on how the circle is currently functioning, and the original proposal (https://www.loomio.com/p/OI8kEjVz/social-coop-organizing-circle-proposal) for the initial framing of its role.
The procedure for selecting an OC member is as follows: an open call for nominations, followed by selection by the current OC members, taking into account Social.Coop's commitment to diversity and inclusion in governance and operations. (See Social.Coop's Statement of Values and Purpose)
***To nominate yourself, please post a reply below, including your social.coop handle and a short statement about why you are interested in joining the Organizing Circle. Nominations will stay open for two weeks. ***

Happy to join in here, @loppear and long-time-listener interest in keeping this thing on an even keel by contributing some time and energy. Technical and small-town community organizing backgrounds, alignment but no experience with sociocratic methods, and no particular qualifications to note.

The Organizing Circle decided to ask Ammar to join the circle. We are really grateful to Luke and Ammar for offering to help. Thank you!

I'm nominating myself for two reasons:
1- Would love to gain more experience in how to be part of a sociocratic collective and what it takes such collective to govern itself.
2- Would love to take my turn offering my labor for the collective.
I'm new to social.coop and loomio, so it would be a learning curve for me
