Introduction: The best path to public safety involves a strategic approach to grow educated, civically-engaged residents living in strong neighborhoods and healthy communities where residents work with law enforcement to assess problems and craft responses to those problems. All individuals, regardless of age, ethnicity, race, skin color, gender, ability status, gender preference, and economic status, must be equal in the eyes of the law. People with criminal records, especially those incarcerated for drug related offenses, suffer lifelong consequences, including discrimination in housing, education, and employment after their release from incarceration.
