Open Animal Calendar Project
This is a social project. It's a simple idea. It might be fun.
The idea is to create an Animal Calendar. We will nominate each day of the year as a different animal day. So, for example, August 10th might be Day of the Crocodile. January 3rd might be Day of the Sheep. Each day of the year will be associated with a different animal. This "calendar of animals" will later be publicised in the hope that it gains some adoption.
Wait.. an Animal Calendar? What? Why?
You may be asking yourself what an animal calendar is. Well, that’s because nobody has ever made one! This is our chance to change that. In the future, people will ask what day it is, and be able to look on the animal calendar to see that it’s the day of the tiger. Kids might learn about different animals via the calendar, and people will know what animal day their birthday falls on.
Why would you want to spend time helping to create an animal calendar? That depends on you of course. When the idea of this project came up in conversation a few weeks ago, it struck me that this could be a nice project to try to complete as a group. The basic idea is very simple. It's a small project, so it has a good chance of being completed. It's not political or ideological. It's a non-techie project where people can get together and have some input into a discussion, and collaborate to produce something we can give to the world.
All of the details of the project are to be decided via collaboration with a group of volunteers, using available communication and decision-making tools. The project is an exercise in running a collaborative "commons" project, and the experience gained in doing that are as important as the end result.
