Start-up Czar

MM Mike McLaughlin Public Seen by 79

Massachusetts' is home to one of the largest hubs of innovaiton in the world. Our innovation economy is growing rapidly in a variety of sectors: from renewable energy and robotics, to the arts, dining, and urban agriculture. These sources of creativity and ever expanding knowledge need specialized advocacy in government to represent their interests and ensure future growth and success.

The solution to this problem is creating an Innovation Czar, an appointed official responsible for uniting these various emerging sectors and connecting them with government. This position would be held by a member of the community who is not only familiar with the industry but understands how to remove roadblocks and craft enabling policy to help it thrive.

Creating this role would allow the innovation community currently in Massachusetts to grow with the support of the government as well as increase the incentive for new innovation to come to Massachusetts. An Innovation Czar provides a voice for innovators throughout Massachusetts, while ensuring that the interests of the state and local communities are being kept in mind.

A similar idea from MTHC: Create a Department of Entrepreneurship with the mission of helping startups and incubators interface directly with government through one small organization.
