Not Borg - I think it looks more like Thanos - the weird chin creases. I was playing with art filters on an uninteresting avatar pic and this one got stuck...

OCN does indeed have dev needs. The dev team (closely aligned, but not an inside team) that build the tools at trade.opencredit.network - the directory and the accounting/ledger engine - made it as a 'throw-away' monolith, and are currently hard at it making an API driven back end.

Meanwhile we have many issues that we're keen to move on with which need work - from realtively small tweaks like re-rdering the onboarding/sign up process you've just been through to more exciting but chewier things like looking at integrating messaging into the site (using matrix.org - probably).

We're in the early stages of scoping out whether a rapid increase in ambition is possible / necessary in the light of the coming post Covid slump - at which point we'd be getting funding within a month or two to start work on a bigger/faster/deeper rollout of Mutual Credit for struggling SMEs everywhere.

This would be looking to go straight for federation, which we don't have yet - as per the Credit Commons vision (whitepaper here: https://creditcommons.net ) - which there is a technical architectural functional spec for, if you'd like to see more.

Oo - Go - despite being an Ethereum dApp developer (a world that's moving more towards Go), I've not done any, yet :( But I have been looking for an excuse and I'm a fast learner when there's a need - if my lack of Go skills is okay, may I chip in? Perhaps, for starters, I can do something simple (like that onboarding job)? Then, if I'm successful, we can see where to from there?

I think you're right about the onboarding being a good learning job. I'll do a separate email introducing you to Geoff Turk who was the team lead on that build, and with a description of what we're hoping to achieve.

As to the Credit Commons stuff, it's a stage beyond where open credit network is at present - proposing a ledger which understands that it might be a child of another ledger (which requires a couple of special accounts for Balance of Trade) - and that any account it has may in fact be a Balance of Trade account for a child network.

This enables an arbitrarily large tree federation structure. This is hierarchical in terms of scope - base/twig tiers are more local, branches are more like telephone exchanges.

In newer news, Commonspub is being actively developed now, and it has federation already (using the ActivityPub spec). A couple devs are adding ValueFlows so there will be economic activity extending the AP social networking, on a federatable "backend". The first piece is offers/wants, which is part of what mutual credit will need. Should we look again at possible collaborations? If not, no worries....

Update: Open Credit Network decided it was worth a punt on a 'go Big, or Go Home' initiative for Mutual Credit ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Fp7z2XDhini0YNopNwLxPdNXCuZz4FbAhvHvFU9jJzI/edit?usp=sharing ) - and it appears to have been a good idea - we have attracted collaborators from the social enterprise, municipal engagement and investment worlds who never spoke to us before.

Interestingly, we seem to be getting away with all the full-strength versions of what we like: open source, mutual orgs, no shares/rent seeking, without any resistance. So far.

It's a tiger by the tail, but so far we are moving fast. If it goes, it will provide good money for development - fast, from June or so. exact route not decide (!). One option is to use the next version of opencredit.network software - Directory and ledger ( https://github.com/ic3network/mccs-alpha/blob/master/README.md ) - but this is a single ledger that knows nothing of federation and doesn't include it in the base architecture.

The other version will be look at commons pub and try to go fast, using the proper credit commons protocol.

We could do with some help evaluating these approaches / options in the next few weeks.

About the Covid-19 stuff I am developing an enactive approach (1) to this biosocial virus for a sort of instant book of 50-60 pages. We are four co-authors with various skills but a very articulate competence in the DLTs stuff is very welcome as applied to the activities dealing with the virus responses.
The orientation is to ground its understanding on a practical wisdom approach in which P2P commoning is the main social and economic form that could be of help now and after this shut down period.

We sent a proposal to Palgrave McMillan three weeks ago and we are waiting for them to respond. We also have a second option.

Frankly I don't think all of these are the best tools for non-geek users (eg I'd recommend Element over any IRC client for public chat rooms), but there are some good ones in there.
