What data do people want for GovHackNZ?

Another idea - does anyone know if there are shapefiles with info about the NZ Cycle Trail available? (http://www.nzcycletrail.com/). I'd be interested in both the short 1-2 day routes and the longer cross-country touring routes.

Actually it looks like they have routes online (just buried a bit) - http://www.nzcycletrail.com/wairarapa-valley-cycleway/map you can click around to find the various routes. Might be a way to extract the data from that site.

Less a request and more of a comment I guess. You guys should be taking advantage of some of the fantastic science datasets on offer from the crown research institutes (GNS, NIWA, Landcare etc). We put together a list of some of the open science datasets on this side of the Tasman here: http://govhack-science.github.io, including pages for the data from NZ.

Some of the really cool datasets include earthquake data, ag stuff for farmers, water usage, detailed topographic data, climate change stuff, webcams of coastlines, data from Antartica etc etc. It's a veritable smorgasbord of stuff, already freely available, and I'd encourage you to take a look at it.

metadata into our API in time for GovHack.

Just in time for GovHack 2015 the Govt.nz API has been reinstated. The team is grateful for the feedback that's been provided since version 1 of the API was released in 2014, and has incorporated many of these suggestions in the redevelopment.

Version 2 of the API initially exposes organisation and consultation data. Organisation data includes information about national and local government organisations, their contact details and key personnel. Consultation data helps the public get involved in central and local government decision making.

The API can offer additional data in the future, and the Govt.nz team is keen to receive your input on what further data categories will be most useful, as well as feedback on what we've delivered so far, or have a chat with us at GovHack, Wellington.
