Should SilverStripe adopt Loomio as a tool for community decision making?

We love open source at SilverStripe, it makes sense to adopt as many open source tools as possible to facilitate community discussion and decision making.
I would like to see something like Loomio adopted to help craft ideas about future direction of SilverStripe, features requests, community research into improvements we can make to help create the best community we can.
This initial proposal invites you to checkout Loomio, use it and discuss how and where we might best use this tool.
My thoughts are that it is not a replacement for our forums, but rather due to Loomio's interesting voting system could be something more like the Dev list (currently on a google group), or could be more usable for the wider community of SilverStripe users (both devs and CMS users) as a space to raise forward looking discussions (rather than Q&A, broken things etc).
Let's see where this goes.
Thanks all,
Cam Findlay

Should we adopt Loomio somewhere in the SilverStripe OSS Community? Closed Mon 30 Jun 2014 11:08AM
Only a few people voted/have joined this group however agree the tool is useful. Granted we are not pushing this group as yet.
Will follow up later with a look into where we could use, for now this is just a "do you think this would be handy somewhere?"

I think philosophically Loomio makes sense to be used in our ecosystem.

Yeah think for converging discussions on features etc it could be quite good.

We should use Loomio to gather and discuss new features for the Framework and CMS. Closed Sun 13 Jul 2014 8:10AM
That we should set up some example discussions and trial with the dev list to see how they interact.

it's nice that you can create sub-groups in Loomio for other purposes so we can keep general discussion and focused feature requests well organised.

This decision shouldn't be made on loomio—it should be made on silverstripe-dev and/or silverstripe-core.
(Also I'm testing the block feature)

On further discussion, this is not really the correct tool for capture and voting of features. Uservoice may be better. This is however a good place to put forward core SilverStripe discussions such as those currently going on on our Google Groups.

I think that we should set up some sample items (like the TinyMCE 4 one) on Loomio and then share it on silverstripe-dev to see what people think.

Loomio is great for getting consensus on whether or not we should proceed with certain things, but is less good at prioritisation and voting.
Loomio would be a great place to get approval on architectural approaches to ideas that people have: should X be a module or a core feature, is it 3.2 or 4.0, etc.

It seems worth a try, if key community members can be encouraged to sign on. I like that the voting process brings issues to closure, which isn't easy on forums or mailing lists.
