Follow our work on Twitter:) Our hashtag is #bethechangetakethechallenge.
In recent years Twitter has become a very popular tool for educators. To be honest, it is the best option for online professional development.
My hashtag is @bar_zie.

In this project, we are going to use a wide variety of online tools. If you are not familiar with some of them, go online and watch different tutorials:)

I have been thinking about a new page on my website called "Connected Teachers", but first I would like to find out what you think of it. On this page, I would post interviews with you. It is one of my aims to showcase teacher work and demonstrate digital leadership and citizenship.
Barbara Thu 20 Jul 2017 12:18PM
Examples of questions :
1.What inspires you to work in education?
2.What is your biggest motivation in education today?
3.What has been your proudest moment as an educator? Tell us the story!
4.Who is your education hero?
5.How do you think we could prepare for the 21st century workforce?
6.What interested you in joining this project?

One question/ proposal:
Could it be useful to arrange all our students in 17 teams, as many teams as the number of Sustainable Development Goals?
Aranza Iturrioz Sun 23 Jul 2017 10:44PM
Students could choose which Goal (Team) they would work on...
Activities could tackle each goal...

What a wonderful site. I love the video. It is really powerful and makes you want to dedicate your life to Global issues. The games are good too. I can't wait to begin at school. The problem is, mine don't go back until 12th September and then their parents must give me consent form before take and put their images anywhere. Still, I can prepare everything in advance but even so, this task won't be done by us until at least the week after 20th September. Please wait for us xxx

I use biopoems with students who struggle in English or need some kind of extra push to deliver sthg in writing.
Letizia Wed 23 Aug 2017 12:31PM
Thank you for sharing!
I'd like to ask for a piece of advice: I teach in 5 different classes and I have not decided which of them involve in the project yet. I don't know if choose 4th (17/18) or 5th ( the last year with final state exams). How much time do you think they will dedicate to the project?
Barbara Wed 23 Aug 2017 2:50PM
Hello Letizia, if I were you,I would choose students who do not need to focus too much on state exams. Of course, it also depends on the students you have. Sometimes they are strong enough to cope with many different activities at the same time. I have not selected third graders as they have lots of other things to concentrate on this year. Have a great day!

It is a good idea to inform parents about this project! Have you seen what I have posted here https://bethechangetakethechallenge.wordpress.com/parents/
Maria Teresa Rughi Thu 24 Aug 2017 10:42AM
Thanks Barbara for the amazing videos. Biopoems are a wonderful idea. I shared a file on competences. Unfortunately it is in Italian, because it's the result of an experimental workshop we carried out last year with a restricted group of etwinning ambassadors in Italy. I have used the assessment rubric this year for the first time. I only translated the general competences in the very last part of the document (age range 17-19), but as you can see each competence contains detailed descriptors.

For my school is perfect but I am afraid there is one more repetition in the Italian area: IIS Luigi Failla Tedaldi. Sorry to bother you
Hale Uncuer Sun 3 Sep 2017 3:39PM
Hello Barbara,
I saw my and my school's name on the list. That made me really happy and enthusiastic. My students will feel the same, I believe. The schools open on the 18th of September in Turkey. That's why I will be able to do the fırst task about students on those days. Is it a problem for this project schedule? How many students shall I work with? Is it compuosory for students to become the same members of a class or can I choose some of my best students at the same level or age? My last question is that is it an e-twinning project? How can I depict this project to my students and the school management?
Barbara Mon 4 Sep 2017 10:51AM
Hello, it is up to you. You decide how many students you are going to invite to this project.Students do not need to attend the same class. You might have students from different classes. However, I hope your students are at least 16 years old.
Hale Uncuer Mon 4 Sep 2017 11:38AM
Yes my students are high school students. When the school opens maybe I will ask for the volunteer students to participate in this project. That's Ok until now but what about this project? Is it a e-twinning project or not? Thank you.
Barbara Mon 4 Sep 2017 11:41AM
It is both an e-Twinning project and a global project. Some teachers who participate in it are not registered on eTwinning platform. You might participate in it even if you are not a member of eTwinning community.

It is time to choose a logo ( a symbol or other small design adopted by an organization to identify its products, uniform, vehicles, etc.) for our project. Before I create a poll, I would like to find out if you have any suggestions. I am attaching three different options below:
Barbara Mon 4 Sep 2017 1:22PM
Did you find these photographs online? Have you been granted permission to use them?
Hale Uncuer Mon 4 Sep 2017 2:15PM
Sorry for that. I recognised the watermarks after sharing them. Yes I found them on the net and of course I have no permission for using them. It was just an idea. I mean a remote control or a button upon which "Be the change, take the challenge" can be written.
Barbara Mon 4 Sep 2017 1:24PM
These photographs do have a watermark!
Barbara Mon 4 Sep 2017 1:30PM
I do have access to Adobe Illustrator at home. Is there anyone out there who has used it to create logos? I am going to watch some tutorials in the evenings as I have not used or created any vectors before.

Barbara Fri 8 Sep 2017 12:22PM
Probably most of us will not be able to discuss all 17 SDGs. That is why students should be able to choose the goals they would like to present in Assignment no 4. The plan is to have 17 different groups. Every group is going to discuss one goal and create a presentation related to this specific goal using Google Slides. Students are going to work in international groups. https://docs.google.com/document/d/16Qb4hdhPS-uh1kTyp7WgeAdEgleTviyP_h6j2uCPHmE/edit
Barbara Fri 8 Sep 2017 12:36PM
If the groups turn out to be huge, we will have to divide them into smaller subgroups:)
Francesca60 Sat 9 Sep 2017 2:05PM
Your idea is right, I'll see my students at the end of next week, I'll introduce te project and together we'll choose the topic they mostly like!!!
Teresa Fri 8 Sep 2017 12:54PM
I think this is the most suitable idea, Barbara. I will see my students next weekend, present the project and shortly decide which topic they Wish to Work on.
Barbara Fri 8 Sep 2017 1:38PM
Please take your time,Teresa. There is no hurry. I think it is important that our students work together. If we put them in international groups, they will have to do that:)
Lesley Fearn Sat 9 Sep 2017 3:30PM
Me too. We start school on Tuesday and we can talk about it from then onwards. I know my students like to work in small groups so I might choose just 7/8 of the 17 goals and concentrate on them. Is that a reasonable idea?
Maria Teresa Rughi Sat 9 Sep 2017 3:36PM
I think I will do the same !
Lesley Fearn Sat 9 Sep 2017 3:48PM
I was going to do this project with my 2nd years, but I might extend it to the first years too. Which classes will you be involving Maria Teresa?
Aranza Iturrioz Fri 8 Sep 2017 9:39PM
We can invite our students to join different groups even those less attractive for them. All the 17 Groups/Teams/Goals should have international students.
Yes, Barbara, if the groups are too big, they can be divided into subgroups.
Kristina Kihlman Sat 9 Sep 2017 10:45AM
I teach Geography and would like my students to focus on goals connected with the curriculum. Also my understanding of the goals is that they should be connected, not dealt with separately. They all exist within the boundaries of goals 6 and 13 - 15:
http://www.stockholmresilience.org/images/18.36c25848153d54bdba33ec9b/1465905797608/sdgs-food-azote.jpg
But it would be no problem for my students to keep the bigger picture in mind even if they are divided into goals groups.
Mrs Mestre Sat 9 Sep 2017 11:02AM
Perfect topics for my senior students ! I haven't presented the project yet as we've just started in France but I will next week ! Count on us ! i hope we manage to cooperate successfully all together ! We are so many !!!

I will be absent from Wednesday to Saturday. I am going to Voss together with my students who will participate in the EYP 2017:) Can you imagine that I did the same thing when I was 16 and 18 years old.Time flies... Have a great day!
Barbara Sun 10 Sep 2017 11:06AM
My students will not be able to participate in any Skype session from the 13th to the 15th of September.
Idoia Zapirain Sun 10 Sep 2017 12:03PM
Hi Barbara! You are an eyper then! I didn't have the chance to participate when I was younger. Our EYP regional selection conference is usually in February and the national one at Easter!. One of my former students is in the Official's Team now and I'm really proud of her. Which topics have you been assigned? Don't worry, you don't need to answer now. It's just that you will have some hints after the conference that will be very valuable. We will have time to comment the experience. I was just wondering if there are more schools that usually attend the event and know what EYP is in this group.
Lesley Fearn Mon 11 Sep 2017 12:54PM

Letizia Mon 11 Sep 2017 6:36AM

Hi Barbara!
How can we scheduled the skipe interactions? I couldn't find the google docs. The one on the site I can't edit.
Another doubt: How are we going to deal with different time zones?
Barbara Fri 15 Sep 2017 7:44AM
First, you need to fill out this form:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/17HptpWSuJaDrMhC9NvjnYM6Lwbajtb4owuROzHJ9soE/edit?usp=sharing
Barbara Fri 15 Sep 2017 7:50AM
There are more than 92 high schools from all over the world which means you will be able to connect with some of them.My students can talk to yours in the evening, too:) The easiest way to find Skype partners is to post a message here. Please have a look at the poster I created some weeks ago.
Susan Wilson Fri 15 Sep 2017 6:50PM
I would like to request that folks add their time zone to the post for Skype availability. Thanks!
Barbara Fri 15 Sep 2017 7:42AM
I hope you will encourage your students to apply for Youth Pass at the end of the project. https://www.youthpass.eu/en/
rosa calvino Fri 15 Sep 2017 8:27PM
Sorry to trouble you but what is youth pass , Barbara ?
Lesley Fearn Sat 16 Sep 2017 6:12AM
Hi Rosa,
It looks to me like a software that students can use to make a certificate which explains the project they participated in. Is that right Barbara?
Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 7:32AM
Yes,it is.Please check the weblink I posted on Loomio. That is the easiest way of finding out what Youth Pass is all about.
Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 7:33AM
Please visit the following link: https://www.youthpass.eu/en/
Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 7:35AM
Have you seen the link? The easiest way is to go online and read about it:)
Barbara Fri 15 Sep 2017 9:15AM
Should we post group photos of all the students who participate in this project on our main website? I have not taken such photographs yet, but could do that next week.
MariellaB Fri 15 Sep 2017 10:57AM
Yes, good idea. My students will join the group next week.
Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 7:35AM
Thanks!
Basia Fri 15 Sep 2017 6:53PM
Hi. Is it possible to create new threads for new topics? I am getting lost and it is really difficult to find important links. Or maybe we can have a Google doc with all the important links at least? Thanks
Barbara
Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 7:35AM
We are in the process of choosing tools for content curation. Please be patient. I was away but I promise to do it during the weekend or next week.
Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 8:09AM
A big thanks to Idoia Zapirain who suggested several content curation tools we could use in this project! At the moment, we are testing different options. I did use PearlTrees in the past, but I am always eager to test out our content curation tools. Thanks a lot, Idoia!!!!
Idoia Zapirain Sat 16 Sep 2017 8:40AM
You are welcome. The 4 S's of Content Curation: Search, Select, Sense Making and Share.
Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 8:52AM
I am really happy we have selected the tool that lets us collaborate! In PearlTrees that function is called :Team up:) So let's team up ASAP:)

Barbara Sat 16 Sep 2017 8:14AM
If you have never used any content curation tools, we suggest going online and reading about them. We have already posted more than 35 links on our Loomio and that is why it is very important we store them at one place.

No worries, Maria. Take your time. Why don't you have any access to our website? I visit it every single day and it seems to work. Any technical problems?
Maria Teresa Rughi Sat 16 Sep 2017 6:01PM

Dear Barbara ,thank you !
Kristina Kihlman Mon 18 Sep 2017 7:20AM
I have some questions about the accessabiliyt of documents. I want to collect links on our learning platform, so that students can see what´s going on and generally being involved. It would also help me to see the full picture :).
Also on the wordpress page you can not access the files, you need a separate link, e.g. for the skype session document. It is all a bit confusing :).
N.B. the shared documents have no protection against students messing around (intentionally or unintentionally) and making unauthorised changes.
Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 8:41AM
Hello Kristina, the documents that have been published on our main website cannot be edited by anyone. Every time there is something new you need to fill out ,I am posting all the links here so that teachers can edit them. Please do not share these files with your students. Can you tell me what kind of document can be accessed and edited by students? What kind of document/ documents are you referring to in your message?
Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 8:46AM
The only file that can be edited by students is the one called "Getting to know each other". We have used Padlet Wall for the past 5 years and we have never experienced any abuse. It is important that you spend some time discussing netiquette with your students.
Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 8:53AM
Are you referring to Padlet Walls? These are the documents that can be edited.
Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 9:04AM
I did have a quick look at all the links. Only Padlet Walls and Zeemap let you edit the content!
Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 9:09AM
Assignment no 2- Problems and Challenges in our Communities- I see that some of you have already started working on this assignment! Teachers DO NOT need to create their own Padlet Wall.

Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 9:20AM
In fact,I did think about protecting our files and folders, but then we would be able to show other what we are doing. Let me know what your thoughts about it are. Have a nice day!
Kristina Kihlman Mon 18 Sep 2017 9:24AM
I am wondering about the padlet with presentations… Have not posted ours yet, and probably you need to approve it. What about the group pictures?

Have you already filled out the form entitled Skype sessions-Schedule? Have a look at the form and check whether some other teachers would like to run Skype sessions at the same time as you :) Good luck. You might also post information about your planned session here on Loomio.
rosa calvino Tue 19 Sep 2017 5:59PM
Dear Barbara, I haven't filled out the form entitled Skype sessions-Schedule yet because we have a provisional timetable that next week will change! .

. Please would you be so kind to send me the link .Thank you Rosa Calvino
Maria Teresa Rughi Tue 19 Sep 2017 8:06PM
I 've seen that our times can match so far. So we are available for a Skype session on Monday, but not before October 1st.
Lesley Fearn Wed 20 Sep 2017 5:51AM

Check our main website. All the instructions have been posted there.
Tool: Padlet / Every teacher needs to create his own Padlet Wall first. When your students complete this assignment, you need to post the link to your Padlet:
Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 9:33AM
Probably the easiest way to show our students what we are doing is to give them the link to the main website. European teachers are also able to access TwinSpace. Do not hesitate to contact Lesley Fearn if you have any questions related to our TwinSpace. Her email address is [email protected]
Barbara Mon 18 Sep 2017 9:34AM

thank you
Maria Teresa Rughi Tue 19 Sep 2017 8:15PM
For the Global Goals Week,or soon after (since it ends on 23 Sep.) we can also think of arranging a "Slow twitter Chat" among some of our students. It can last as long as we decide (4-5 days) and each day begins with a question (Q1-Q2 ect.) Students access at their own pace and answer (A1 - A2 ect.) using https://twitter.com/hashtag/bethechangetakethechallenge?src=hash
Lesley Fearn Wed 20 Sep 2017 6:00AM
I would love to do this but I am ashamed to say that I still haven't worked out how to use Twitter. It isn't very popular in this neck of the woods. Is is student friendly? I am scared of having problems with families and school management.
Lesley Fearn Wed 20 Sep 2017 6:02AM
sorry,...is it student friendly (I can't seem to edit these posts any more).
Barbara Wed 20 Sep 2017 6:09AM
That's a great idea! Who is in?
Barbara Wed 20 Sep 2017 6:10AM
Yes,it is. Maybe some of your students are already on Twitter and could show you how to use it?
Barbara Wed 20 Sep 2017 6:10AM
No worries. Better late than never:)
Lesley Fearn Wed 20 Sep 2017 7:26AM
Good idea, I will try that
Maria Teresa Rughi Wed 20 Sep 2017 7:44AM
It is absolutely userfriendly and very easy. Obviously each student should have a profile, and create a personal account. Students are gown up and we can monitor their chat. So they know they will be under control. We teachers agree on the 4-5 questions before!
Lesley Fearn Wed 20 Sep 2017 2:48PM
Hi Maria Teresa, which 4-5 questions? Things are getting muddled and I can't find them
Maria Teresa Rughi Wed 20 Sep 2017 3:10PM
Actually there is no question yet. Mine was a proposal to be shared. We should think of the questions collaboratively before asking..?

Daisy Paul Wed 20 Sep 2017 4:32PM
HI Barbara
I'm currently facing issues with allowing the children to use an open platform
as parents might not allow.
I'm keen on doing the introductions of the children
but am awaiting the consent of the parents.
Barbara Wed 20 Sep 2017 4:50PM
Hello Daisy, thanks for letting us know about it. Your students might post their names and their bio poetry only. If it is a problem to post their photos, forget about it. The most important thing is this short text about themselves- a bio poem. Have you seen our Padlet Wall? Students post their headshots and a short text about themselves only.
Daisy Paul Wed 20 Sep 2017 5:01PM
Hi yes I have seen the Padlet wall
its awesome but my teachers feel its n open platform and parents might not like it
children have written the short texts about themselves..so who gets to see the padlets ?
children or only the teachers and can children go and edit others stuff on it if they have access to it?
Barbara Sat 23 Sep 2017 9:40AM
Everyone who has the link to our Padlet will be able to see the texts and pictures. But if you cannot publish photos, just publish the texts.
Barbara Mon 25 Sep 2017 1:09PM
https://padlet.com/barbara_anna_zi/rd80wmtmwshw
Please create your own Padlet Wall first and then copy the link and post it on our main Padlet Wall. I see that students from Turkey did post individual introductions. Please read all the instructions very carefully in the future.
Barbara Tue 26 Sep 2017 11:51AM
FYI : Norwegian students will not be able to participate in any Skype sessions during week 40 as they have autumn holidays.
Susan Wilson Tue 26 Sep 2017 3:25PM
I am in Los Angeles, CA. Are there any schools that would be interested in recording Skype sessions? Or perhaps doing a flipgrid matching students and having them "interview" each other.
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:42PM
You are 9 hours behind Oslo. It might be really hard to arrange skype sessions with you and your students, but I will ask my students if they could do it in the evenings.
Susan Wilson Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:47PM
I was thinking of recording a class discussion then exchanging these discussions. We can comment on each other's comments withing the discussion
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:49PM
What kind of tool are you going to use in order to record class discussions? Would you use your phone?
MariellaB Tue 26 Sep 2017 7:20PM
I am in Italy (Milan). I am interested but how can we manage the time difference?
Susan Wilson Wed 27 Sep 2017 3:47PM
I am thinking we could begin with each student recording the answers to 3 questions on flipgrid. We could match them up and have then they can respond to each other. OR we could record a class discussion and send it to one another.
rosa calvino Wed 27 Sep 2017 4:15PM
it is a great idea we can try . I teach in Italy
MariellaB Wed 27 Sep 2017 4:29PM
I have created a flpgrid but we need to add the topics of the discussion. What shall we begin with?
e.g. Who's responsible?
Susan Wilson Wed 27 Sep 2017 4:56PM
My students talked about questions like, "what is your daily schedule" and "what does your school campus look like?"
MariellaB Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:36PM
That's ok, just something to introduce themselves. I'll add these topics.
Link to the grid https://flipgrid.com/9cz53gd
Link to the first topic https://flipgrid.com/7e4499 (daily routine)
Link to the second topic https://flipgrid.com/0c283b (your school)
Susan Wilson Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:52PM
Thank you! My kids are very anxious to get started. We are still learning and beginning to understand the 17 goals. We are working on the second lesson now. We will record the flipgrids tomorrow 9/28.
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:53PM
That's perfect.I will ask mine to do it on Friday if we have enough time.
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 7:00PM
Do your students have individual schedules?
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 7:06PM
Can we make these two questions more open? All of my students follow the same schedule.
MariellaB Wed 27 Sep 2017 8:06PM
Yes, if you want me to add other topics to the discussion just tell me and I will do it.
My students follow the same routine so I will ask who of them is willing to record the video.
Susan Wilson Thu 28 Sep 2017 3:34AM
Barbara, the question about schedule does not need shouldn't be answered by all students. Most of my students have not been exposed to other cultures and they want to know how their lives compare to others. Some of the questions they have are for the class as a whole. Please reword the question any way you like.
Maria Teresa Rughi Thu 28 Sep 2017 7:41AM
I am in Florence with etwinning meeting. My ss will record thei videos next week. But 90 sec. is a very short time and 1 video for each students might become really messy. I would prefer a single video where all ss quickly introduce themselves and talk about their school.I would use flipgrid for videos on the SDGs and opinion sharing.
It ' s a good suggestion to post the twitter Questions on the forum. Some of the ss have answered Q1
Barbara Thu 28 Sep 2017 9:38AM
Have a great meeting!Let's ask them to use a VoiceThread!
MariellaB Thu 28 Sep 2017 8:43PM
Thanks for your students' videos. I talked to mine today and they will prepare something for next week.
MariellaB Sun 8 Oct 2017 8:58PM
Dear Susan, thanks for the recordings. Unfortunately I have to wait until November 3rd to see if I can work on the project. The new school I am in has strict rules about projects. I hope to be able to be part of the group. If you need the password and username of the flipgrid, I'll post it.
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:41PM
Please do not invite your students to join our Loomio. This place is for teachers only. We can create a new Loomio or Microsoft Teams for our students if there is a need for that.
Susan Wilson Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:50PM
Are the flipgrid links above linked to our Loomio?
MariellaB Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:51PM
Hi Barbara, the links are just for the teachers who want to involve their students in the discussion. The teacher can upload the videos or give the link of the flipgrid but no students will be part of our Loomio.
I suppose a phone would be ok to record the videos.
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:52PM
Yes, it is a great idea! Thanks for suggesting it. I have used Flipgrid quite often. It is a great tool but if you do not have a licence ,you can only create short recordings- 90sec max.
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:54PM
? These are separate links that we can use. Our students should receive these two links and answer these two questions orally using Flipgrid.
MariellaB Sun 26 Nov 2017 7:31AM
Hi Susan, a group of my students recorded their daily routine and added some information about the school in reply to your students. Here's the link to the flipgrid: https://flipgrid.com/9cz53gd
Barbara Wed 27 Sep 2017 6:56PM
I think it is a fantastic idea to use flipgrid in our project. Students will be able to share their ideas and listen to ideas posted by other peers!
rosa calvino Thu 28 Sep 2017 6:48AM
Why don't we use VoiceThread to record ? we could share the questions on google docs . please tell me if my students can take part in the discussion

I love VoiceThread! It is a great tool cos it lets our students comment upon the work of other students! And the best is that their videos can be much longer than 90 sec!
Barbara Thu 28 Sep 2017 9:30AM
I suggest that we use VoiceThread. What do you think about it ? Rosa, thanks for reminding me of this tool! https://voicethread.com/
Lesley Fearn Fri 29 Sep 2017 10:27AM
I agree. VoiceThread looks like a great tool. Can we add it to our Skype list so other people can join in?
Barbara Thu 28 Sep 2017 9:34AM
How to build a VoiceThread?
Maria Teresa Rughi Thu 28 Sep 2017 9:53AM
I agree..! Voice Thread or Vocaroo for introductions!
Idoia Zapirain Thu 28 Sep 2017 11:01AM
I am trying to sum up the suggestions you have been posting on Loomio and find a mixed solution.
- Twitter chat. We could open a section in the forum called "Twitter chats" and different threads. We could use the same question we publish on Twitter. I suggest publishing the question a week later in the forum. A summary of the posts using 'Moments' would follow the question in the forum. Thus, those who could not follow theTwitter chat would be able to follow it.
Voice Thread. I'm ok with it. I have already used it. Good for presentations.
Flipgrip. As everybody is not going to have access to the full paid version, those school with full access could record the long videos and the others could follow with short answers. (agree/disagree, like/dislikes). Who knows? We may all end buying the full classroom pack, but not in two weeks' time. We can start trying it and set other more meaningful tasks later throughout the project.
What do you think?

Dear Idoia,
I agree with the Twitter chat , I'll do my best to understand how it works ( I have never used it before). As far as the first meeting of our students I' d like to know the topic . It may be introduce yourself- your school - the place where you live

I think it is a great plan that we should follow / or at least those who want to participate in these additional taks.
MariellaB Thu 28 Sep 2017 8:47PM
Short videos are Ok for my students at the moment. I've moved to a new school and I've just met my new students so this is what I can do now.
MariellaB Thu 28 Sep 2017 8:50PM
As for twitter chats I'm used to them but I need to check if my students have an account. If so, I will be willing to have them involved. I've used Twitter in a previous project and Storify to collect all the tweets https://www.erasmussmile.it/final-products/
Maria Teresa Rughi Fri 29 Sep 2017 12:52PM
I replied in twinspace. Storify is ok to collect tweets.

Hi! 1. I´ll post our Padlets next Monday (2 Oct) 2. Photos of the groups (2 groups) soon 3. I´ll try to use Twitter with my students but, please, give some time for answering the questions (Slow Chat, maybe two weeks??). 4. I like Voice Thread, it´s a nice tool so we can use it too. 5. Please, post intructions in our Twinspace too (Teachers Bulletin). Have a nice week-end!!

Thanks for the update!
Lesley Fearn Sun 1 Oct 2017 5:44AM
Hi all
I think we risk getting too complicated. The Twitter chat is a great idea but since not everyone is able to do it, it should be kept as an extra. Why don't we combine these questions and answer idea with our Skype page. Not everyone will be able to do skype so let's add Voicethread and Flipgrid. It is easy for any of us to add their links or addresses to the 'page' and will be less chaotic. As far as Flipgrig is concerned; I think that 90 second videos are perfect. Any longer and they risk becoming boring and it is surprising how much can be said in 90 seconds. The forum idea is a good one. We can try that although my experience

Lesley Fearn Sun 1 Oct 2017 6:42AM
HI Aranza, I have created 2 new pages under Skype addresses (Twitter and other communication tools) and Timeline (Curation tools). However, I am not clear on what the intentions are with Twitter and what we are supposed to be doing. It sounds like a repetition of what we are doing anyway. If anyone has any ideas please let me know and then I will do something, otherwise we can leave the links as optional extras. Not all schools or parents are happy for us to use public social media. Mine isn't and aren't. Public social media fears may be founded on ignorance or reason but we still have to respect the rules of the communities we live in.
Barbara Sun 1 Oct 2017 3:02PM
Lesley, it is an additional task. Many schools do have their own social media policy and that is why they will not participate in this task. I think it is a good idea to mention it as they were recommended by other teachers participating in this project.
Barbara Sun 1 Oct 2017 3:08PM
Twitter slow chat- additional task suggested by one of our participants
II Twitter slow chat
WHAT IS IT?
A month long Twitter chat focused on specific topics.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
A topic is chosen and a different question related to the topic is posted every week on twitter with the hashtag #bethechangetakethechallenge
Participants answer the questions and respond to each other as they can throughout the month, remembering to include the hashtag.
Barbara Sun 1 Oct 2017 3:30PM
I have received only one question for our Twitter slow chat. I have just made up other questions and posted them on Twitter. You might see them here too: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1uEpUV1DpJHSrV0O8tv4MAyLuo8CYyFCpEiWMQVgTWGo/edit?usp=sharing
Feel free to retweet them! I hope your students will be able to reply to them on Twitter. Good luck!
Lesley Fearn Sun 1 Oct 2017 4:53PM
Hi Barbara, I have put it under Skype addresses but I can add it to the tasks if you like. I'll do it later this evening. 👍

Kristina Kihlman Tue 3 Oct 2017 11:32AM
Hi Barbara!
I have been travelling with students for nearly two weeks, so I might have missed something. We have posted presentations on padlet, comments about
local issues in another padlet, posted group photo, and are now ready to tackle the movie.
Is it one movie per group or per person?
Should it be a presentation of our community, or our community in connection with global goals?
Where do we post the movie/movies?
Best wishes,
Kristin

It is up to you,Rosa. I am going to send this contract to my students. I think it is important they know about it. Have a nice day!
rosa calvino Wed 4 Oct 2017 3:07PM
I mean do they have to sign it?
Barbara Wed 4 Oct 2017 3:27PM
Yes, they should do that. They might work in pairs or in groups.Adobe Spark is free.
Lesley Fearn Wed 4 Oct 2017 7:18AM
Hi Rosa, Assignment 2 is one which can take as long or as short time as you wish. It consists of documenting Skype sessions and then adding the photos or the videos you took onto the Padlet on Assignment 2 page. Assignment 3 consists of classroom work. You need to watch the videos and play Kahoot with your students in order for them to become familiarised with the SDGs. Then you need to decide which are the most important issues in your area (you can use software such as Tricider to do that) and when you do decide, you need to post it on the Padlet. After that, students should make short 90 second videos to ask questions about the SDGs. You can find the link on assignment 3.

Barbara Wed 4 Oct 2017 3:27PM
That's great. My students have holidays now. They will focus on this task next week.
Lesley Fearn Wed 4 Oct 2017 5:26PM
Sounds perfect Rosa. I have 4 classes doing this so the two older ones have identified problems and uploaded them onto Tricider and then the 2 younger classes will vote for the one they think is the most urgent. It has been enlightening for them because they hadn't considered the SDGs as applying to where they live.

On Tuesday February 20th at 10am PST Microsoft Education is organizing one of their monthly #MSFTEduChat TweetMeets, this time about Literacy in celebration of the Month of Literacy.
#MSFTEduChat TweetMeets are guided Twitter chats organized by Microsoft Education about a new subject each month. They recruit new expert hosts every month and craft 6 discussion questions to guide the conversation. A creative agency designs custom, promotional art work for each event. TweetMeets are popular among educators and are promoted through social channels from Microsoft, through their partners and the hosts themselves. They explicitly welcome newcomers to participate. All tweets use the hashtag #MSFTEduChat.
Microsoft Education blog post
They announce every TweetMeet event on the Microsoft Education blog. The one about Literacy is here: https://educationblog.microsoft.com/2018/02/cultivate-world-literacy-msfteduchat-tweetmeet-feb-20/. The blog post contains an introduction to the topic, the discussion questions and the hosts. The hosts’ combined headshot is attached to this message. This month all hosts are certified Skype Master Teachers and share a passion for Literacy.
Discussion questions on Literacy
10:00 Ice breaker question: What is your best reading memory?
10:06: Q1. What does literacy mean to you and why is it important?
10:15: Q2. How do you incorporate literacy in all content areas?
10:24: Q3. How do you differentiate literary instruction to reach all readers?
10:33: Q4. What’s your favorite technological tool for teaching literacy and why?
10:42: Q5. Share resources that help you become a better literacy teacher.
10:51: Q6. How can we improve reading instruction to create passionate readers?
This is a great opportunity to get the word out about connecting literacy to the Sustainable Development Goals!
Here are two things you can do:
Promote the event to your followers and other people in your networks. You can use the three images attached to this message for that. Be sure to use the hashtags #MSFTEduChat, #TeachSDGs, and #SkypeClassroom. Feel free to forward this email message to others.
Participate actively in the event by responding to and engaging with other participants. Prepare your own answers to the discussion questions and send these out when the questions go live.
