Notification of edits

Kia ora,
Am I supposed to get notified by email when someone edits the context of a thread I've participated in / subscribed to? What if I was invited to the thread? What if I have / have not yet seen it? How should one interpret the notification history?

True.

I think adopting established system of diffs and notifications like Wikipedia software (Mediawiki) can help at least to some users, as well as in terms of documenting it.

I am much in favour of diffs, but I do wonder how "normal users" would deal with those.
