Digital Economy Journal workshop

TS tatiana styliari Public Seen by 298

We have been discussing this idea since February after the DEN annual meeting, where a group of people mainly from Highwire, Lancaster initially had the original idea of creating a DEN CDT journal. Myself and a few more people joined the team and we eventually developed a full structure/strategy of how the DEN Journal would ideally be.

The main aim is to bring together students from all the CDTs, explore potential collaborations between them (a potential co-written paper?), give them the chance to practice writing and reviewing papers and build a Digital Economy journal that might go public if we take a further step. For the time being, the workshop will revolve around presenting how this Journal would work and get feedback from all of you since it’s made to facilitate our work and develop our academic skills and peer reviewing.
Dan, Chris, Nikolai, Ieva, Elisavet please don’t hesitate to add your comments on what has been discussed already. With Felicia’s help we already booked an academic to come and give us a talk on peer reviewing papers.

Sorry to post this again as a thread, it seems it couldn't be seen by all as a proposal!

Well as you know I think it's a great idea, but I'm kind of involved in proposing another workshop already. But just to clarify, the academic booked to do a master class on peer reviewing will be doing that on the day before the workshop as he couldn't do the day of the actual workshops (19th July), so we need to find some other activities that the workshop can include.
I guess it would be nice if the activities of the workshop could result in some clear guidelines for how the journal will be run as well as maybe a time for the first publication, or do you imagine that some of this would be sorted before the workshop? I'm sure we could get a 10-15 minute slot on the last day of the summer school to present the new journal to the whole summer school.

Hi all, just to confirm what Nikolai has said, Max Wilson from the University of Nottingham (the Academic who will lead this workshop) and Pete Wright have agreed that Max will deliver the workshop as a Masterclass on the Monday afternoon (due to Max having to attend another conference on the Tuesday) and then the CDT student led Paper Peer Review/Journal workshop can follow on from this on the Tuesday, based on the previous day's masterclass and how CDT students want to develop this and take it forward. Im sure Max will be happy to look at what you propose for the Tuesday workshop and make sure it links in :-)
