Ideas around effective use of Loomio by TB

JVD Jaco van der Merwe Public Seen by 10

This is a thread to explore how we can more effectively use this platform to facilitate debates & aide in reaching consensus on specific issues/questions.

I find the bottom-up singularly linear construct of these threads a little hard to read & follow.
I've found it lacking in.... readability... compared to other mediums such as mailing lists or forums - i.e. it's hard to reply to a single comment.
But the short form is not bad in encouraging getting a single idea across at a time.

Interestingly enough, my flatmate met a Loomio programmer at an Auckland house party a few days ago :)
Well, that's my constructive comment for the day.

Should Loomio votes be binding? Closed Tue 3 Sep 2013 8:51PM

proposal has run it's course.
people unsure how to use, or even if Loomio should used to aid as a consensus tool.
the question of binding vs. non-binding is based on (now void) assumption that users would be interested in making use of the platform

Tuesday meetings & votes should always carry more weight than other (online) channels, but this platform affords us the opportunity to allow members to vote & have a voice who might not be able to attend on issues (such as current weekend debates).

Should the votes here be considered as binding & final (green [Yes]), or should it be considered an 'OK' subject to acceptance/ratification (i.e informing consent) during a meeting (pink [No]) - eg. 10 yes votes here + 2 @ meet > 2 no's here + 5 @ meet.

(/me hopes this makes sense)

I'm personally in favour of it being ranked equally. A vote is a vote.

Binding? LIke the decision made in loomio is a Tangleball decision? No. For an individual, like that person showed up to cast a vote? Maybe sometime down the road, not yet. For now, share the #s at the vote for context, but proxies already exist.

Reviews last night of loomio were not stellar. The biggest issue seemed to be the splintering of discussion. As in: To fully keep up with issues, you must attend meetings, read the discussion list, and read various loomio threads.

OMG, we are having a discussion about this becoming binding after we have heard about a couple of weeks ago????

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG oMg OmG omg omg oh dear.

This reminds me about the referendum on smacking kids being criminalised.
"Should a smack as part of good parenting be a criminal offence in NZ?"
Equating smacking with good parenting. [sometimes one wants to, but one restrains ones self]

Why is the heading different to the proposal.
"Ideas around effective use of Loomio by TB"
Seems innocuous, right?
"Should Loomio votes be binding?"
Now there is the hook.
Seems a complete mismatch.

Dude, propose it then abstain?
I think someone is stirring.

Ah well that's all the spleen I have left for the day.
Nite nite all.
