Follow-up from last Friday.
When we were talking about moderation, i mentioned a thread about community management written https://retro.social/@ifixcoinops
After i was chatting with him via Mastodon, he re-organised the threads, so that they were more readable.
-
Original Thread about his experiences running the online text-based game "Improbable Island" :
-
The second part continues:
-
The third part of the continuing conversation is taking place here:
One of the conversations that he references is https://hackers.town/@lori talking about her experiences with an online game called Blaiseball:

All of these are worth reading and learning from. :D

What would it take to make social.coop fit for decision-making? Everybody is there, at least now and then, and people are working on activity pub software, so if Mastodon can't do it (and I am not sure it can't) other activity pub software could either be found or created. Might be easier than adding yet another place for discussions.

@Bob Haugen I believe that Bonfire Network is on the way to being suitable as a meaningful community organizing and collaboration platform.
I don't think that Mastodon can provide a platform for community collaboration so long as its development is dictated solely by a person who is committed to maintaining it as the best possible twitter clone that it can be, who is solely concerned with how well that software functions to enable people to reach as broad of an audience as possible. This purpose is at odds with community organizing and collaboration.
Mastodon isn't built as a community collaboration platform, and unless that changes, I think that the best chances for a unified collaboration platform are elsewhere.
Features that Bonfire has that I think make it more suitable for community collaboration include the ability for people to set specific domains of people to publish posts to, and the ability for people to create their own private or semi-private groups to work within. These are both features that have been rejected within Mastodon because they don't align with its designer's vision for what Mastodon should be, and are a couple of features which I think are integral to meaningful community collaboration.
They're not the only features I believe necessary for effective collaboration, just a couple of them, and I'm really excited for Bonfire because, from what I've seen, it's built from the ground-up for effective community collaboration.

@Katanova
Does Bonfire have a proper inbox? One of the big problems with Mastodon is that it relies so heavily on a single stream of notifications, and I don't think that works if there are some communications that people actually need to see.
I'd really like to try out Bonfire, but I don't think Flancian has seen the Loomio comment in which I requested an invitation --- https://www.loomio.com/d/m4hc80Tn/could-we-be-two-instances-communities-/57. (This is actually another example of where I feel like there are communication problems.)

@Dynamic you might try this link, which was posted once for guests to create their own accounts. Please let me know if it still works. https://bonfire.social.coop/signup/invitation/01H6W5N994ANWKDDWNYC353M2X

@Bob Haugen
Thanks!
Katanova sent that link to me a little bit ago, and I've created an account (same username as here). The glitches and time lags are pretty bad, so I'm not sure how much I'm likely to do with it... : \

@Lynn Foster, I think you were looking for a Bonfire invite as well?

@Katanova
Thanks for your response. I don't really have energy to run my own thread right now, but might do so at some later date. If someone else decides to pick up these concerns in the meantime, they are welcome : )
