DOI creation service down for 24 hours on 2024.08.18-19

Hello everyone,

We have been informed that Crossref, the service used create DOIs for EarthArXiv, will undergo a scheduled maintenance beginning 18 August for 24 hours from 8pm (UTC). During this time:

• No new DOIs can be created

• No existing DOIs can be updated

• DOI creation and updates will be automatically queued for when the service is restored

CDL Janeway scans for DOI creation/update issues every 30 minutes, so any new or updated DOIs should be processed after Crossref is confirmed as back online. To reduce confusion, we recommend delaying the acceptance of new preprints until maintenance has completed, or to set a delayed published date for any new preprints accepted during the downtime.
