Q and A
A space where people can seek clarification on questions around $. eg can I claim this expense? How much do I need to keep aside for Super? Anything that you need......It i envisaged that over time people will post questions here rather than emailing admin, thus sharing the learning and reducing duplication.

So this is a timely discussion, because this exact thing is happening with the AoH coming up. Several CosSies have asked for this to be deducted from their bucket. Also in-line with previous conversation one request has come from someone who is in the red already.....have we made a decision around how we are going to handle these requests?

HI Lynn,
Maybe have a look at the buckets in deficit thread. I have asked if people could put up examples of when it is OK to be in red. My questions would be around what the plan is in place to move from red to green.

Can we make the comments general eg is it ok to pay for AOH training from a bucket that is in the red?

Question from @Jason: How long can a person be engaged as a casual employe before they need to be made a permanent employee?
Deleted User Fri 31 Aug 2018 6:20AM
A person can remain casual long term if they choose. Here is the info from Fairwork Australia: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/employee-entitlements/types-of-employees/casual-part-time-and-full-time/casual-employees. However if a person is performing regular hours after 12 months they should be offered permanent status. Here is an article re this http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-05/fair-work-decision-decision-on-full-time-employment-casuals/8680892. Whether or not they opt to take this up is their choice, and perhaps we need to cover this when we are transitioning people from Inquirer to
Collective member. There is no benefit financially under Jeder's system to be one or the other as we are reponsible for filling our own buckets. Administratively, the casual option is much easier.

Hi- the salary sacrifice forms on the back end of the website- are they the most current? I have had some enquiries from COSSIEs regarding Salary Sacrifice and just want to make sure the information being provided is the most up to date? @kerry63 @leighdunscombe

No -I have updated it in the last couple of days-will send through by email. They will also need the bendigo bank application form.

@kerry63 when you say they will need the Bendigo Bank application form too, do you need to complete both? Must admit I've only filled in the salary sacrifice form.

Yep-both

Scenario: I am with another Jeder member somewhere and we grab a cab together that costs $80. I pay for the cab on my card and get $40 in cash from the other person. What impact does this have?
Deleted User Fri 19 Oct 2018 8:07PM
This is great for me-I get to claim the expense through my Jeder bucket , and I also get to pocket the dollars with GST included. Not so great for my mate whio cannot claim the expense, and has no record of payment. To be fair, If I offer to pay for a shared expense, I can let finance know and an entry can be made from my mates bucket to mine, without any cash changing hands between us. This is a win win.

Good question- I am not sure what impact this would have on Jeder or what risk this may pose to the organisation or to the individual? Would it not be similar to other private arrangements where someone may pay for items on a corporate card (or entertainment card attached to their FBT/Salary Sacrifice) and their mates give them cash (i.e. pay for dinner and get cash from each person)? With the comment about pocketing the cash and GST- I am presuming Jeder would be able to claim the GST component to this transaction, but in effect it was not a Jeder expense (as it come out of the individual bucket rather than an admin bucket)- may be off track in this line of thinking but it makes sense to me.

This is another interesting angle. If the cab was for work it goes through Jeder. If it is for personal use it can go on the salary scrifice card. You can only use SS card for things that you will not be claiming through work (either through reimbursement or tax deduction), this is double, or triple dipping.
And....anything that is paid from a Jeder bank account is considered a Jeder expense from the ATO and accountancy perspective, which bucket it comes from is not relevant.

spot on-although as an employee you could chose not to be reimbursed and to then claim as a tax deduction.
