Talk on making community forest gardens
We had a public talk on what is and how to start a community forest garden on Wednesday which was very well attended (50 to 60 people).
I have uploaded the recording here
I have a step by step course to help people design their own forest gardens, especially community forest gardens. All courses are by conscious contribution, so people offer whatever they can afford and feel is fair.
INTRODUCTION: How to design a forest garden
Sat 8th and Sun 9th May 2021
FULL DESIGN COURSE: An easy step by step guide to designing your own forest garden
Thu 11, 18, 25 May, 1, 8, 15, 22, 29th June

Here is some feedback from the last course (only 3 people gave permission to share the voluntary feedback)
Absolutely inspirational! Rakesh's unique way of teaching enabled us to develop our knowledge and skills whatever our starting point. I can't wait to put it all into practice now! (Sally) |
The most interactive and engaging workshop I’ve ever been on. Rakesh is an absolute inspiration and I always feel motivated to get out in my garden and create something new towards my future forest garden. Thank you thank you so much :) (Rak) |
I was amazed to see diversity, in its broadest sense, to come together on the course. (Rajesh) |

Hi MikeThanks for the heads up
Very happy for your to use parts of my talk in your show. If you also wants to have a brief interview to tie it all together, I'm also happy to do that too.
While I totally trust you and your integrity, if you can send me a recording prior to broadcast just in case that would be appreciated.
I have a forest garden course coming up in May to encourage people to make community forest gardens, so a broadcast some time in April would be ideal.
Much love

Hello, Rakesh
I'm Mike.
You may not have heard of me where you are,
but I'm the Secretary of 'Incredible Edible Salford' in North West England.
Me and my partner Jane have a weekly hour on Salford City Radio,
which is broadcast live every Wednesday morning at 11am,
streamed on SalfordCityRadio.org (and you can 'Listen Again'
to previous shows for 30 days at that website address).
After that, we put edited version of the show up on SoundCloud
as podcasts.
The show is called 'Green Giraffes and Worms'.
If you go to SoundCloud and enter that name, it will give you a PlayList
of previous programmes.
All this introduction is a roundabout way of saying I'm really impressed
with your recorded talk.
How do you feel about us using some highlights on our radio show?
You get the credit of course, and we'll promote 'Forest Gardens'.
No charge. We're all volunteers.
Let me know what you think about us spreading the word.
If you give the go-ahead, we'll get started -
but, since we're in Covd times, the shows are pre-recorded at home,
of course, and your bit won't get in until April.
(We're happy to promote future events, as well, depending on getting
the shows out BEFORE such events happen !)
Any comments, let us know.
Cheers for now,
Mike

Thank you! It's an interesting setup, 10 eco-homes in a close, with the potential to develop some land into a forest garden. I'm finishing off some basic "forest garden" landscaping this week, will get in touch with the housing association when people start moving in and create some sort of community garden setup. Will be in touch!!

Good luck with the project Jake. If you need any help, feel free to reach out.
I will be doing another course to help people design their community forest gardens. So if you want to get some of your colleagues we can all help to design it together. People pay what they can afford and feel is fair, so money is not an issue (seriously, no one is denied a place on the course because of their financial situation). I just want to help make things happen.

Thank you Rakesh, very kind of you to share this. Useful for me, as I'm helping to set up a community forest garden 🙂. I had a livestream on community forest gardens, some possibly useful info and links in the notes https://youtu.be/ayG8lTHn_vk

Hi, sorry it hasn't quite gone according to plan !
We used the start of your recorded talk on the 14th April 2021 show,
but it was re-edited due to the radio station being sent
something to add on the end from the local tree planting campaign,
(website 'Wild Rumpus').
So it all ended a bit abruptly.
I'll give the link below, so you can see how it turned out.
Meanwhile, you mentioned things upcoming in May.
If you send me details, we'll be happy to highlight it.
(Also, we haven't forgotten the idea of an interview.
Perhaps we could do that next month.)
Hope everything is going well for you.
All the best,
Mike
