Using Loomio for our group

MN Matt Noyes Public Seen by 9

Why Loomio?

It is the main governance tool used by Social.Coop so it provides members a common space. It also have many useful tools for online orgs. We may want to add other tools to our toolstack.

Questions?

Let's use this thread for questions about how to use Loomio effectively.

Check out the Templates for creating a thread -- they seem very useful, particularly for meeting planning and consent decision-making.

@Matt Noyes How do I access a thread template? I can see a blank template but nothing that is formatted.

@Kathe TB There should be a Browse Template Gallery button below the box:

@Matt Noyes Nope. I feel slightly less stupid. I don't have that button below my new thread option.

@Kathe TB and @Matt Noyes Same here, just 1 option, blank thread. <:-?

On the Main Loomio landing page for Social.Coop, Let's update it with the OC: who has permissions to edit it? Is there anything within OC on Loomio that should be private or public? We want S.C members to be able to see proposed agendas and Meeting Minutes for the OC. And, in which threads can they comment?

CWF

Bump. I am in favor of the OC on Loomio remaining private. It would be great to have a quiet space to talk. @Matt Noyes @Kathe TB

@Caitlin Waddick, CaitlinWaddickSocial.Coop Maybe we need both, a private space for exploring ideas, etc. and a public space where we can post minutes, decisions, etc.?

@Matt Noyes @Caitlin Waddick, @[email protected] I like the fact that this is a space for experimentation within the OC, and it helps that it's private (sending 8 notifications is less daunting than 400).

Having said that, I also think that making (some of) these experimentations visible is important for Social.Coop members.

After some research, if I understand correctly, I've discovered that we can move a thread from one group to another. Could this be a solution? Experiment in the private OC group, consent collectively to the transfer of a thread useful to the members, transfer it to a public OC group.

I would be in favor of opening the group up to public in the interest of transparency and getting folks familiar with how decisions are made. I'm ok with leaving it private
