Grab other important names like Facebook page, Twitter, etc.

This is just where I always start with a new project. So if we want to decide we don't care about this stuff, I totally get it.
It's worth considering grabbing up "BuyTwitter" for things like:
- Facebook page
- Twitter acct
- Instagram account
- Tumblr
- Snapchat acct?
Etc. and so forth.
I can run around and do that. Once we figure out how to create an entity to hold these things, I can transfer them over to that entity. (Which means we all have to trust me!)
I do think it could be worth it because it may not take the trolls long to grab them instead and start stealing our narrative.

Thanks for this. It might be better to first identify a name for the broader project the includes but extends beyond #BuyTwitter. Given that we're about to commit to that model, I think we should start working on a name that's more appropriate to the more generalized approach. Within that, #BuyTwitter would be just our first campaign. (Also posted this here.)

Understand. Just from experience, though, I know that the BuyTwitter names will disappear much much sooner than names related to a broader project.
And it does seem like the origin story is ("we all got together to try and buy Twitter") already formed ;-) So good to own the names.

what @ntnsndr said, but also you're correct @kirstenlambertsen: twitter usernames cannot have twitter in them, see https://support.twitter.com/articles/101299

that is nice but impossible to have "twitter" in any username

I know @dannyspitzberg is a fan of @BuyThisPlatform and has made the account to reserve it for potential use. I'm in favor. Appears to be available on Facebook as well. Maybe there's been more consensus developing for this with the folks focusing on #communications in Slack? Consensus enough to make a proposal?

@BuyThisPlatform is too long, I think. Also, "Platform" is not a common expression enough in some languages. I guess very few Facebook users call Facebook a "platform" in Germany. IMHO a name needs to be tightly connected to Twitter because that's what it's about in the first place. So word like "Tweet", "retweet", "mention" come to mind … @tweetsunited seems to be not in use anymore and we could try to get it. Same goes for @weare which would be brilliant, I think.

Sadly, the @weare handle is taken : ( As for using the word "platform" I think you're right it's not a mainstream concept, and maybe the handle is too long, but because Trebor coined the term "platform cooperativism" and #platformcoop has gotten a lot of engagement, twitter.com/BuyThisPlatform felt like the best way to stay aligned and build momentum. What do you think about @coopchange 's suggestion that we move to a proposal?

Hrm. I should have expected it, but all the Twitter usernames I've tried so far are taken. Yet they also don't come up in searches.
letsbuytwitter
buyingtwitter
buytwttrcoop
It's probably just impossible to create a username with "twitter" or "twttr" in it.
