We may have a battle on our hands to get 3m paths, this would be one way of getting some savings, a shared zone on beach road could offer a high level of service using existing pavement if done well

"Naked streets" a much better outcome in this area! It has high pedestrian and cycling traffic, camping and boat launching - due to the awesome coastal environment. Slow vehicles to 20kph by installation art\furniture - enhancing the space :-)

More major infrastructure work on beach road, following the strengthening seems counterproductive - I think it's a great idea to share that space and have it as a more complete destination/recreation area.

As stated Beach Road is narrow and used by many vehicles especially on weekends, many towing boat trailers. Not much width for shared road idea. Prefer a designated track for cyclists and walkers

The new loop is disappointingly too narrow . It is great to see it used so much but it is a tedious ride having to ask people to move every 50 meters or so . I think this proposal would be a good compromise.

I agree with Aaron re creating a shared walking, cycling, motor vehicle space on Beach Road (entire length) and go for 3m plus on path.....and put in a temporary underpass under SH1 at Tarewa Park to signal intent and demand.
Really need to get the DHB involved too as part of a travel plan to get staff (and visitors) out of cars. It is shameful and embarrassing that Whangarei's biggest employer (and one that holds the baton for health promotion) haven't been actively promoting active transport?!

I may be the odd one out here but I actually agree with a separate pathway for walkers and cyclists, much safer and adds to the feeling to be on a designated track. Dont like to share with cars many towing wide tandem trailers.

I might be the lone ranger but it seems to me that starting the 'Raumanga to Forum North' cycleway by laying down 250m of concrete at the far end of Raumanga Stream that goes nowhere is a very strange way to kick this off. Surely the focus should be on connecting Forum North with Raumanga as the name suggests. Very weird!

I hope these links work?? The second image is a little out of context for Beach Road, but I like the thought of picnic tables and art, trees and gardens creating the park-like amenity that its ok to drive through, as long as drivers realize it is a park - not a road. Quite revolutionary for Whangas?! But could be a new trend - and then reduce the 4-lane section of Riverside to an avenue with two lanes, wide shoulders and a wide flush median - maybe even a tree or two?!
