I'm thinking we can tweak the master document often, but we probably need a release cycle for pushing changes that go live in Transifex and then on LearnOSM. Would we want a link to the live LearnOSM also somewhere so people could always go look at the old documentation?

Yes, I was meaning a release cycle.
Not all translations will be done at the same speed, so we would need to keep the former version for the languages that aren't ready yet. Is that what you mean?

Something like this?
Let's say we release version 1.1 of the English, all other languages are still at 1.0, at the bottom of each page on the LearnOSM site it says which version they are on. That way people can look and see where in the translation the materials are? Then when the translations need for 1.1 have been added it will be released for those languages? So if someone does a translation of a language it could be upgraded each time, but some perhaps stay at a later version depending on community time and interest?

One of the problems I see is with translation. Translating through GitHub is a blocker for people with no experience with Git, and learning it is difficult for most of people.
