Accessing and archiving subgroups that were set up by a previous admin

Subgroups have been set up by a previous admin of one of my groups and we no longer have contact with him.

I need to archive and delete the contents of these groups.

Is it possible to do so?

Hi Paul, it's certainly unfortunate that this is how the system works currently, and we need to make a change to the system soon to fix it.

But I'm not sure what the right thing to do is.

As a suggestion: Coordinators of the "parent" group should always be able to see, join and become coordinators of subgroups?
