What data should we ask NZTA to provide for GovHack?
NZTA have a data page as well as traffic statistics and a system for connecting developers to traffic monitoring. What other data should we ask for?

The local councils should be asked about local roads. NZTA about highways. I think I can get a GIS feed from our 'Mobile Alert' app if we want crowd sourced data.

From NZTA maybe we should ask for early access to the new Crash Analysis System - data feeds of crashes and crash APIs? I think there is a self report option too.

Can you ask them for that Jo?

@shaunmcgirr1 essentially I'd have to ask myself - There's a team here at work on that project. I'll see what I can do.

@shaunmcgirr1 doesn't sound like the new NZTA Crash data project has anything public beta yet :(
Old one is still here: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/crash-analysis-system/

Thanks for asking! A consistent message I've got from government is that they don't really know what people want, so every request we make at least doesn't hurt the cause ;-)
Is the old one worth pushing for GovHack?
Jo Booth Fri 12 Jun 2015 2:49AM
We have plenty of raw data from it publicly available - and the old one is not the easiest thing to learn in a weekend - so I'd say no, don't bother.

From David Preece:
"Presumably the roads are regularly surveyed to establish which bits need to be fixed. Can we get data for which pieces of which roads are good/bad/terrible?"
