If it's a budget $9 Telecom phone them I can see the point, but really no excuse for unsubsidized phones. If you buy something for good money it shouldn't be inhibited unreasonably.

Only 10 people voted, with 9 people in support of this policy.

By voting on this, you are not voting on the exact price. Just the idea.

Carrier locking cellphones is a way for companies to ensure their market power, it also increases demand for phones by making them unable to cross arbitrary borders which results in unnecessary production and waste. Its anti-competitive.

Yeah it smacks of monopolistic practice.
It probably already is actually illegal, however nobody has the funds to test it in court.

No region (carrier) locked phones, and no region locked DVD/BluRay players.

I am against monopolization, as one USA writer described USA of the 50's "Coca Colanization". It prohibits growth in the industry

This is a silly discussion.

Anyone who buys a phone from a mobile company is getting ripped off anyway. Plus it only costs $30 to remove the carrier lock anyway.

This is a pointless discussion you should always purchase your handset separately to your plan.
