CoTech Fund - co-operatively powered by cash & time Closed Fri 8 Feb 2019 12:02PM
To establish an internal money-time fund, a one-year pilot project.
**£1 a week or an hour of work each month per member. **You can contribute more money or/and work voluntarily.
Each co-op contributes on behalf of its members.
This proposal was endorsed at the CoTech Hack in Space4 last November.
Purpose of the Fund:
- network operating costs e.g. organising CoTech events,
- business development e.g. putting together a large, joint tender, skills map,
- outreach e.g. sending people to promote CoTech & co-ops in general,
- mutual support & learning e.g. funding training, consultancy,
- internal projects via CoBudget e.g. urgent non-profit initiative
Process:
CoTech will have its own bank account with Unity Trust Bank. To set it up we will use CoTech constitution drafted at Wortley Hall in November 2017 and ratified by a vote on Loomio on the 8th of February 2018 (https://wiki.coops.tech/wiki/CoTech_Constitution).
Each co-op will be contacted asking for their current number of members.
Co-ops will then be sent a link where they can determine how much would they like to pay into CoTech Fund (suggested amount as mentioned above: £1/week per member). If a co-op does not wish to participate financially they can contribute their time.
A ‘CoTech Running List’ stack within Deck app exists on CoTech Nextcloud (office.coops.tech) and every member of CoTech has access to it by clicking the icon in the top nav bar.
Deck app enables creating tasks, assigning them, marking them as completed etc.
At the end of the pilot year, each co-op will submit a summary of what exactly they did for CoTech and include the estimate of the time contributed. Simple collaborative spreadsheet will be available on CoTech Nextcloud with each co-op having their own tab.
At the end of the year, if co-ops have outstanding balance they are expected to transfer the amount to the CoTech bank account. However, over the pilot year of the Fund, participation will be voluntary.
The summary report will be published on community forum. The Governance and Membership team who put the proposal together, will evaluate whether CoBudget can be used in tandem with the Fund.
Members of Animorph, Go Free Range and Outlandish volunteered to become signatories of the bank account so the procedure of setting things up should go smoothly.
If you are interested in the history of this proposal, the approved draft is available on CoTech Nextcloud, can also be accessed directly: https://office.coops.tech/s/66P3qpGpoCCyNT6

Outlandish is definitely go on this. One question is how this interacts or potential conflicts with the monies some co-ops are contributing to Solid Fund - should we be making some proposals against that fund? Should co-tech members pay in to both? All things that can be discussed and don't have an impact on Outlandish's vote for this proposal.

We Are Open co-op are a little fuzzy about how exactly we pay (how often? what's the process?) but in general are definitely in favour of this initiative! We're in for the pilot year :)
