Rewriting & Redesigning the Licence Pages

@matthewoliver has pointed to the need for more basic explanations about what can and cannot be done with each licence. Looking at what's already up there, I propose:

1. A much more visual explanation of the permissions and restrictions associated with each licence (currently this: http://creativecommons.org.nz/licences/licences-explained/).

Starting with an 'original' visual work -- like CC Kiwi -- we could have various instances of reuse (sharing, commercial, derivative) with ticks/crosses. This would be especially useful for students.

This sounds like a project for an intern in Jan or Feb.

1. Expand the 'licences' section. Introduce and re-purpose some of the information from the FAQs and the CC Wiki into this section of the site.
   

I'll start to cobble this together in a Google Doc later in the week.

This might be counter to what CC is trying to do, but it might help to explain situations where you don't need a CC licence as well, or at least the situations that aren't affected by your licence. Eg, fair dealing is still fair dealing no matter what licence you use, but also, if fair dealing is the only thing you're trying to support, no licence is required.

I think that's definitely in line with what CC does. The CC 4.0 licences (released next week) go so far as to include the following notice on the 'human-readable' deed:

"You do not have to comply with the license for elements of the material in the public domain or where your use is permitted by an applicable exception or limitation."

So, a statement making that clear on the CCANZ site is definitely worth including.

Hey Matt, looking good, am keen to contribute. It's important to KISS and define audience - casual browsers/first time callers and more advanced needs.
Do you have a deadline for this - or can get together on Weds Dec 4 in person in Welly? Otherwise should I add more comments here or on the doc?

Great start, thanks @mattmcgregor. Something about the way a licence cascades would be good too – is that only the SA? I.e., explain how use of one licence affects the licence that a content re-user can use.

Good idea @matthewoliver I've now added two extra lines about re-licensing SA and NC works. CC doesn't recommend using non-NC licences for adaptations of NC works, so that's worth noting, beyond the standard SA guidance. There's also a chart at CC HQ that we can link to (or re-purpose).
