Persuasive Technology and Internet of Things: designer & developer workshop
Whether intentional or not, digital technologies will influence the way their users think and behave anyway. This workshop is meant to bring together designers, developers and design researchers interested in exploring the potential of Internet of Things and sensor data visualisation for behaviour change initiatives in all kinds of domains, ranging from health & wellbeing, learning, environmental sustainability, personal financial management, security, to engaging the public with brands/products etc.
I have to be honest that there are 2 motivations underlying this proposal. Firstly, it is highly related to my own PhD on enchanted objects (*) for health behaviour change and thus I am very passionate about sharing some design concepts and insights to other CDT fellows. Secondly, as I have heard there are a number of CDT PhD projects also looking at Internet of Things and persuasive technologies, I believe there is a compelling need among us to learn about each other's research and explore potential collaborations.
The format of workshop is to be decided based on potentially interested participants' backgrounds, needs and preferences. So please briefly introduce yourself below if you are interested in participating.
(*) The term "enchanted object" is first termed by David Rose (2014) to refer to everyday mundane objects gaining magical power from embedded sensing and computing units to be able to satisfy some fundamental human needs.
